David Paton  M.Ac., L.Ac.

David Paton began his acupuncture career after studying Martial arts for several years. It was during this time that David was introduced to Chinese philosophy and the theory of Qi. After developing a respiratory illness that was not improving with typical modern medicine treatments David turned to an acupuncturist. The change in his condition as well as unexpected changes in mental and emotional well being prompted him to begin studying Chinese medicine. In 1990 David started studying acupuncture at the Traditional Acupuncture Institute in Columbia, Maryland. While studying he continued his work in various Baltimore area hospitals as a respiratory therapist and after graduation opened his own practice in Pikesville Maryland in 1993. Since 1993 David has been in private practice serving the Baltimore area and has had offices in Pikesville, Perry Hall and is currently practicing in the Catonsville area.

Mr. Paton has served in a number of capacities in the field of acupuncture. He has been a faculty member of Tai Sophia Institute for 15 years teaching theory, ethics, the art of traditional diagnosis and supervising in various student clinical settings from drug detoxification sites to the student clinics.

In 2001 he was nominated to the Maryland Board of Acupuncture where he served two terms as a professional member. He also served as the Chairman of the Board for 4 years.

Recently Mr. Paton has just concluded a feasibility study  using acupressure and acupuncture to treat children diagnosed with Asperger’s. Mr. Paton was a consultant with KKI from 2009-2012 in the traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and chronic pain unit and currently works in the rehabilitation department at Riverview Rehab and Health Center.  His experience includes working with patients who have conditions such as asthma, ADD/ADHD, ASD, Autism, Asperger’s, chronic pain in both adults and children, Crohn’s disease, IBS, Headaches, Migraines,  stroke victims, MS, MD and simple stress reduction.

He continues to teach at Tai Sophia Institute and has served Tai Sophia as a dean of students and theory division chair. Chronic pain, Pediatrics and family practice are a main focus for David,
